Indie CFO LLC wants everyone who runs a business to be able to use SlimBooks — the iPhone and Android app and this website — including people who use a screen reader, larger text, a keyboard, a switch, or reduced motion. This page says what we aim for, what we have done, what we know still falls short, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.
Our target
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA for this website, and to the equivalent platform guidance for the app: Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines for accessibility on iOS and Google’s accessibility guidelines on Android. We treat WCAG 2.1 AA as the standard we test against, not as a ceiling.
What we do
On this website:
- Every page has a “Skip to content” link, one main heading, and landmark regions (navigation, main, footer) so screen-reader users can move around quickly.
- All meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text; decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology.
- Form fields have programmatic labels, dialogs announce themselves and trap focus while open, and everything works with a keyboard alone.
- Text and interface colours are chosen to meet a 4.5:1 contrast ratio, and the site works at 200% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
- Animations respect your operating system’s reduced-motion setting.
- An automated accessibility scan (axe-core) runs on our main pages every time the site changes, and a failing scan blocks the release.
In the app:
- Buttons, links, switches, and cards carry accessibility labels and roles, and the swipe-to-sort cards offer the same actions as accessibility actions for VoiceOver and TalkBack users who do not swipe.
- Text scales with your system text-size setting. Body text scales up to 1.5 times, headings up to 1.3 times, so screens stay usable at large sizes.
- Touch targets are at least 44 points tall, and colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
- Every animation honours the system “Reduce Motion” setting.
- Progress and status messages — importing, deleting, confirmations — are announced to screen readers.
- We test with VoiceOver on iPhone and TalkBack on Android, at the default text size, at 130%, and at the largest system size, in both light and dark themes.
Known limitations
We would rather tell you than have you discover these:
- Text scaling in the app is capped. At the very largest accessibility text sizes on iOS and Android, the app scales body text to 1.5 times rather than the full amount you asked for, so that transaction rows and reports still fit on screen. We are working on layouts that remove the cap.
- The app follows its own theme setting, not the system one. You choose light or dark inside the app. It does not yet respond to the system “Increase Contrast” setting.
- PDF reports. The Schedule C report the app generates is a visual PDF. It uses real text rather than images, but it is not yet a tagged PDF, so reading order in some PDF readers may be imperfect. The same figures are available on screen in the app and as a CSV export.
- Third-party screens. Bank linking happens inside Plaid’s interface, and subscriptions inside Apple’s or Google’s purchase sheet. We choose providers that publish their own accessibility commitments, but we do not control those screens.
Tell us
If any part of SlimBooks is hard or impossible for you to use, email gustavo@getslimbooks.com with the subject line “Accessibility” and tell us what you were trying to do, which device and assistive technology you were using, and what happened. We reply within five business days, and we treat an accessibility blocker as a bug to fix, not a feature request to schedule.

How this statement is kept honest
This statement is reviewed before every app release and whenever the website changes, as part of our release checklist. The date at the top is the last time someone checked that every claim on this page was still true.
